Can I choose the name of my character?

Yes, as long as it adheres to the official naming policy; basically as long as it is not a famous character (e.g. no gandalfs or merlins), is acceptable in a fantasy environment (e.g. no bash4eva, kickmeh) and is not offensive it should be fine. In addition each game world (server) has its own name database and you can't have the same name as any one else.

Can I choose a second name for my character?

Yes, at level 20 you can use the /surname command to give your character a second name (e.g. Bob Smith).

Can I get titles infront of my name like Sir and Lady?

Yes, each class is awarded titles when they gain a certain amount of points in Alternate Advancement and for completing epic quests. There are class restrictions so for example, only a Paladin and Shadow Knight can be Sir Gertrude and only a Necromancer can be Lich Dillan.

Can I choose to be male or female?

How many playable classes are there in EverQuest?

16 classes in total, Bard, Beastlord, Berserker, Cleric, Druid, Enchanter, Magician, Monk, Necromancer, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Shadow Knight, Shaman, Warrior and Wizard.

Is class choice permanent?

Yes, you can customise your character to a certain extent but your class is the main defining factor. You can only use the armor, weapons, abilities and skills compatible with your class and you cannot switch at any stage in the game.

Can I dual class?

No. Your character cannot have two classes in EverQuest.

So, how do I get better and advance?

By getting better equipment and gaining levels your character will have better stats, skills and spells. The combination of which makes up the 'power' of your character. One of the objectives of the game is to increase the level (and the power) of your character. This is where the term 'powergamer' comes from, someone who concentrates on increasing those stats, skills and spells to achieve greater power at the fastest speed possible, often at the expense of every other concern in the game.

How do I increase in level?

When you successfully defeat a monster and when you complete certain quests, experience points are awarded. Each level requires you to gain a certain amount of experience points in order to move onto the next. The following site though very old, explains a lot about how EverQuest works on a single page: http://home01.wxs.nl/~scho3186/everq.html.

What is alternate advancement (AA)?

Alternate Advancement is a second experience pool introduced with the Shadows of Luclin expansion. It allows you to set a portion (percentage) of the normal experience points earned towards it. When you gain 1 AA point (similar to gaining a traditional level, except 1 AA point is always the same amount of experience) you can then spend it towards enhancements or special abilities, based on your class (though some abilities are available to other classes too).
